Speaking to MVC, Bandai Namco Europe’s senior vice president of marketing, digital and content, Hervé Hoerdt, explained that the publisher has a “full platform strategy.” The senior vice president said: “I don’t see any point of putting Tekken 7 on Epic Store.” Although Hoerdt sees that the Epic Games Store has many users and a good business model, he indicates that the exclusivity “is not our vision.”

Bandai Namco’s vision is that it wants its content to be available for as many fans as possible, and as long as Epic is trying to secure exclusives, the two companies likely won’t work together in the short term. Hoerdt didn’t rule anything out, though, saying that “if they’re open, we’ll go there.” Epic Games is known to pay huge amounts of money to secure exclusivity deals, with the developer of Ooblets revealing that Epic’s payment made the game a sales success before it has released. However, fans shouldn’t expect an exclusivity deal to be announced between Epic and Bandai Namco any time soon.

Some fans, as well as opponents of the Epic Games Store, will be delighted with what Hoerdt has said. There has been huge backlash toward companies that have agreed to Epic Games Store exclusives. Metro developer 4A Games suggested that the new Metro game could skip PC after people took to Steam to review bomb other games in the series because of Metro Exodus’s Epic Games Store exclusivity. The first two Borderlands games were also review bombed on Steam, as Borderlands 3 was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive too.

This should mean that Bandai Namco’s upcoming titles, such as the hotly anticipated From Software and George R.R. Martin project Elden Ring and action RPG Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, will likely be available on Steam. A lot could potentially change between now and these games’ 2020 release dates, but for now fans can rest easy knowing they won’t have to install another launcher to play them.
