RELATED: Modern Games To Play If You Loved Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2
However, there are some issues with Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2, namely that this is barely a remaster. The only thing seemingly updated were the in-game graphics. It’s a nice coat of paint to make it look more appealing to a new crowd, but the game needs a lot of features added in future patches as well.
8 The Character Select Screen
CG cutscenes were once the coolest thing about a video game. Final Fantasy, for example, constantly broke new ground when it came to the CG cutscenes and elaborate stories. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 did not have a lot of CG, but the little that was there looked good in 2004.
These movies were not touched up at all, which is common for a remaster. They look like blurry nightmares now, and the same is true for the character select screen. Of the two issues, the characters select screen should be fixed first.
7 Choose Class Genders
This would take a lot more work and would change the game significantly. However, adding a way to change genders between classes would go a long way. Part of the fun of a dungeon crawler RPG like this is customizing a character. It would be even better if classes could be fully customized from hair to accessories like eyepatches. However, a gender swap option would be sufficient enough to help diversify the playable classes more.
6 Add Online Co-Op
Being able to play couch co-op in a 2022 game, even with just a remaster, is a big deal as that is not a widely spread mechanic anymore. As fun as two-player co-op can be, this game could be more fun with a couple of tweaks.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2’s PS2 cousin, Champions of Norrath, not only featured four-player co-op but there was an online option as well. Even if this game can’t increase the player count to four, an online option would be good to have. These are still uncertain times where online co-op is as important as ever.
5 Save Anywhere
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 uses an old-school save point system which might be the most out-of-date thing in the game. There is no autosave feature which is one bummer. The other oddity is that players cannot save wherever they wish. It’s understandable why these were limitations back on the PS2 but a remaster of a game should always at least include autosaves. One or both of these features should get added to the game in the next patch.
4 Save Point Upgrades
If the developers cannot add autosave or the ability to save wherever into Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2, then there is another route they can take. If they upgraded the save points then players might be more willing to forgive the save limitations. For example, save points could replenish health and mana. Save points could also allow players to fast travel between checkpoints. Both of these features would make the game more accessible as an RPG.
3 Increase Speed
The movement speed leaves something to be desired as there is only one speed for all characters in the game. Tilting the stick slightly will have characters walk but no one probably wants to do that in a dungeon crawler.

There is a spell, Sprint, that can give characters a quick boost of speed. The monk starts with this ability which is nice but it isn’t enough. The normal speed shouldn’t be as slow as it is in the first place and increasing this speed would help. Another option would be to add a fast-forward feature. This has been common in a lot of remasters like most of the recent Final Fantasy titles.
2 Add A Map In The Menu
There are two ways to look at the map in Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2. Players can hit left on the D-Pad, for the controller on the Switch, and bring up a mini-map that will nestle itself in the upper right-hand corner. Tapping this button again will increase the size, interlaying the map on top of the player in the middle of the screen. While this increase in size is helpful, it would also be handy to see a more detailed map in the menu. The developers could add something like that to the character menu or the pause menu.
1 Fix The Attack Button
Most dungeon crawlers of this caliber, like Diablo 3, allow players to hold down the attack button. This will have the character keep attacking as if they were programmed to be on autopilot. That option does not exist in Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 at this moment but it should. If this were a standard action RPG with more combos and a third-person camera angle then no auto-attack option would be understandable. This feature not existing in this game is truly baffling though. It doesn’t ruin the game by any means but tapping the button is more tedious.
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 was re-released as a remaster on July 20, 2022, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
